Helping people to help themselves

Renovation work by local craftsmen

When building and renovating schools and sports facilities, we follow the principle of “helping people to help themselves” in order to strengthen the local economy in addition to providing better and new educational opportunities. We therefore make sure that the craftsmen come from the region and that they also learn something. In many parts of India, the school buildings are in a catastrophic state, with inadequate facilities and

dilapidated infrastructure. This has a negative impact on the learning environment and the motivation of pupils. The renovation project focuses on tackling these challenges and making schools shine in new splendour. Furthermore, this aid project is about ensuring a promising future for the children. Quality education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and lack of opportunity.

Building renovation

The renovation of school buildings is an important investment in the education of children and the future of the country. Many school buildings are in poor condition and urgently need to be modernised. By creating high-quality learning environments, we are laying the foundations for equal opportunities in education and helping students to realise their full potential.

Energy & water

The installation of electricity and water connections is also part of our work to improve the basic infrastructure in the facilities. This transforms schools into safe, comfortable and functional learning environments. As the water supply is only open twice a week, water is stored in tanks to secure the supply for the remaining days.

Sanitary facilities

In addition to drinking water and the provision of water for various school activities, the installation of water connections is crucial for hygienic sanitary facilities. These not only improve health but also promote wellbeing and are therefore directly linked to pupils’ learning success.

Uniform

School uniform is an important part of the education system in India and offers many benefits for children. They promote uniformity, equality and a sense of belonging in the school environment. They reduce social differences and conflicts based on clothing.

Nutrition

The nutritional situation of children in India poses a significant challenge. Despite some progress in recent years, many children still suffer from malnutrition and an inadequate supply of essential nutrients. Lack of accessibility to balanced nutrition, limited financial resources and lack of knowledge about healthy eating are some of the reasons for this. This has a long-term impact on children’s physical and mental development, affecting their educational opportunities and their ability to lead productive lives.

Reconstruction after the flood

After the devastating tsunami in India in 2014, rebuilding schools was an important priority for Kasselmann’s team in order to restore education and normality to the children affected. There were many schools along the coast that were completely destroyed or severely damaged, depriving thousands of pupils of access to education.

A particular focus is on helping people to overcome their problems and improve their living conditions in the long term. Rather than just offering temporary support, Positive Power for Children focuses on helping people to help themselves, giving them the resources they need to become independent and create lasting change in their lives.
